Helping Adults with Autism Perform and Excel (HAAPE) had their first general meeting onAug. 29th. Senior and President of HAAPE Ike Grapin spoke about future club events including fundraisers such as their annual softball classic.
“We are so excited to start the new school year. We have a much larger turnout this year than we had last year and to repeat the events done in past years,” Grapin said. “Last year, we were able to raise over $7,600 from the softball classic, which is our most exciting event of the year.”
Adviser and Speech Pathologist, Kathleen Gorman-Gard said she encourages students to apply as an officer and enjoy the club with active involvement. She also wants all members to participate in the softball classic since it is the main fundraiser of the year.
“I want people that apply as an officer to teach responsibility in and out of school in order to encourage more participation in HAAPE,” Gorman-Gard said. “They also need to be an active member with good grades which is extremely important when having a large role in this club because the softball classic is a very important requirement since it’s our biggest event of the year that helps raise money for our cause.”
Grapin said he is excited for this school year and can’t wait to see the hard work put into the club by new members. Grapin encourages new upcoming members to reach out to friends and tell them to join HAAPE.
“I hope this year brings more recognition towards our organization so that we can raise more money at the softball classic than we ever did before,” Grapin said.“I can’t wait to get to know everyone, have a great school year and accomplish our goals.”
