Joe Biden served as the 47th Vice President of the U.S. and is currently running for President in the 2020 election with Senator Kamala Harris as his Vice President. He is running under the Democratic Party against main opponent Donald Trump, the current Republican U.S. President.

On the Coronavirus topic, Biden wishes to instill a nationwide mask mandate, which would require everyone to wear a face mask on federal property to prevent the further spread of the virus. If elected into office, he also has plans to set up a national contact-tracing program, establish at least 10 testing centers in every state, and provide free coronavirus testing to give the most effective treatment for the virus and lower the number of cases. According to bbc.com, Biden’s plan is coherent with the general Democratic beliefs of the involvement of the government within these circumstances.

Another one of Biden’s most addressed and significant policies is his tax plan and other economic plans, to benefit the country. He intends to raise taxes for high-income earners, those who make over $400,000 a year, to pay for and provide public services. Also, according to joebiden.com, “This is the moment to imagine and build a new American economy for our families and the next generation.” Biden says this because he believes Trump’s economic policies of benefiting the wealthy over working families combined with the pandemic have worsened the economy. He plans to fix this with his “Build Back Better” plan, which will distribute loans to small businesses and increase direct money payments to families. Biden also vows to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 an hour. These revised policies appeal to mainly younger voters and blue-collar workers.

One of Biden’s most respected policies is what he plans to do about climate change. According to Biden, the issue of climate change is an “existential threat,” and he intends to curb emissions at a faster rate by rejoining the Paris Climate Accord, which Trump withdrew from during his presidency. According to bbc.com, by committing to this plan, Biden can be held accountable for reducing the amount of greenhouse gases produced by up to 28% by 2025. He believes the Green New Deal, a package that intertwines his climate and economic strategies composed by the left-wing of his party, is another significant step he is willing to take in order to reach another goal of his, his desire for the U.S. to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. This plan would involve a $1.7 trillion federal investment in green technologies research to spend over the next 10 years. Biden’s plan for climate change pairs well with his attempt to create more job and employment opportunities.

Overall, Biden believes in and holds faith in his Democratic policies and viewpoints. It is significant that voters not only hear about, but also comprehend and analyze how these policies may benefit them as individuals, so they make an educated decision when voting in the 2020 election.
